Chertsey crash, road closed, south of Rakaia – State Highway 1

A serious crash at Chertsey late this afternoon, in mid Canterbury, means the state highway is likely to be closed for several hours tonight.

Southbound detour: drivers should use Thompsons Track and Somerton Road. Northbound detour: drivers should take Somerton Road and Thompsons Track.
 
Check the Transport Agency’s Traffic and Travel map page(external link) for when the highway between Ashburton and Rakaia reopens.
