CBTA information for members of the public

You’ll have to meet a range of criteria

If you’re interested in becoming a Transport Agency-approved assessor for competency-based assessment, you’ll have to meet a range of criteria. To be approved by the Transport Agency, you'll need to:

  1. have a current ‘I6’ (driving instructor) endorsement on your driver licence
  2. undertake and pass an advanced riding assessment*
  3. develop a compliant riding assessment route
  4. conduct an assessment on this route (including identification of riding faults), and be certified by an approved representative of the Transport Agency.

*If you are an IAM, ROSPA or MSF rider certified to advanced riding standard (or higher), or if you’ve conducted advanced motorcycle instruction for NZ Army or NZ Police within the past five years, you won’t need to undertake the advanced riding assessment. Evidence of other riding experience may also be acceptable and is to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
