Manawatū – Whanganui

A total of $1.6 billion is forecast to be invested in Manawatū-Whanganui in the 2024-27 National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) period.

Investment in Manawatū-Whanganui during the 2024-27 NLTP will strengthen the regions importance as a strategic freight hub to support economic and population growth.

  This route provides critical local and national connection for residents, freight, and tourists, and connects the upper and lower North Island. We are doing work to improve the resilience of SH1 at Utiku, an area with longstanding land instability, which has recently got worse. Our focus is on ensuring users of SH1 can complete their journeys as quickly and safely as possible.
