Hoe ki angitū, the NZTA Innovation Fund, has been in operation during the 2021-24 National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) period.

To date, two rounds of funding responding to six specific transport system challenges have been released, attracting over 200 funding applications and supporting 38 innovation projects. 30 of these projects are still underway, with NZTA continuing to provide important non-financial and practical support to innovators. This support includes leveraging NZTA’s regulatory and operational expertise to help bring innovative transport solutions closer to market implementation.

Due to the 2021-24 NLTP investment concluding on 30 June this year, there will not be another funding round for Hoe ki angitū. Additionally, NZTA will not apply for further funding for Hoe ki angitū through the 2024-27 NLTP development process.

NZTA and the Government recognise the critical role of innovation and partnerships with the private sector for driving efficiency, effectiveness and value for money across the transport system. NZTA remains open to, and will continue to explore, the many mechanisms and best ways to encourage and facilitate innovative transport system approaches and solutions.
